It’s the third century of the Fourth Era, and the Second Great War between the Empire and the Aldmeri Dominion has arrived. Skyrim, High Rock, the Empire, and Hammerfell have forged an alliance against their common enemy, the Thalmor.
The Last Dragonborn ascends the windswept Seven Thousand Steps to the monestary at High Hrothgar, knowing they’re soon expected on the battlefield.
“You have mastery over the Thu’um far greater than any other mortal on Tamriel,” says Arngeir, already knowing why they’ve come. “Your prophecy has been fulfilled. You have already destroyed one threat to Tamriel, no, to this very Kalpa. And now, you plan to face another.”
“But there is one Thu’um you do not yet know. A weapon so powerful, we Greybeards have passed down the knowledge for centuries, but never seen it used. Come, Dragonborn. This is our final gift to you.” And so the Greybeards teach the Last Dragonborn the ultimate words of power.
The Valenwood front. The Dominion march to meet the Ruby Ranks of the Empire. There is no White-Gold Concordat to uphold the illusion of peace now. Magefire arcs across the battlefield, swords meet shields, battlemages duel levitating a hundred feet in the air. And through it all, the Dominion marches onward.
Suddenly, the roar of a dragon- no, more than one dragon- cuts through the fray. Men and mer alike look up as massive wings come between them and the sun, casting fearsome gnarled shadows over the battlefield. The Nords are the first to cheer. Their hero has arrived, the Last Dragonborn atop Odahviing.
High above the thunder of battle, the Dragonborn searches for their target: the Thalmor general. They know they must be here somewhere. How could they miss out on the sacking of the Imperial City and the fall of the human Empire? But flying into battle shouting at the top of your lungs with dozens of fire-spewing dragons behind you tends to make you a target, and the Dragonborn is assailed by enemy projectiles and forced to contend with the immediate threat.
The Imperial City. The Empire’s last stand. The siege has gone on day and night for weeks without respite. Everything and everyone is battered and broken. The Thalmor general and an elite contingent of Dominion soldiers have fought their way to the top of the White-Gold Tower. The city burns below them. The general relishes the smell of the smoke, the smell of the Thalmor’s impending victory.
They’re not here to take the city, not yet. They’re here to dispose of one of the Empire’s main rallying points and figureheads: the Last Dragonborn. The general knows they will rise to the bait, and they’re right. Soon enough, Odahviing ascends to eye level with the general, the Dragonborn on his back.
The Dominion soldiers are quickly shouted off the Tower. Now it’s just the general and the Dragonborn, circling each other atop White-Gold.
“Soon, there’ll be no Empire left,” sneers the Altmer general. “No more human filth tarnishing our perfect elven Dominion…” They take a step foward. “No more Tamriel.” Step. “No more Mundus.” Step. “No more Aurbis.” Step. “And in a few seconds…” They ready a spell in one hand and unsheath a wicked blade with the other. “No more Dragonborn. What makes you think you can challenge me?”
The Last Dragonborn answered with a thunderous roar, unleashing the most powerful Thu’um Mundus had seen since the days of Ysmir Wulfharth,
